Is it dangerous? What do I do if my kundalini energy is waking up? Having owned a Kundalini Yoga studio and being a psychotherapist, I get a lot of phone calls and questions around these topics. Kundalini energy is just the basic force of life, the energy of awareness, that exists in all of us. When that happens, we can become who we are meant to be and wake up to our destiny. The soul has taken a body and come here for a reason, and if you are not living out that purpose, kundalini can show up as disruptive so you can change course.
My own awakening started ingrew in intensity throughand has been continuing on, if a bit more gently, ever since. Below are eight signs of a kundalini awakening. Init became clear that I needed to let go of a dependency on alcohol.
This was not at all easy, but I see it as the early stages of my system clearing out old habits that would not serve me in my life, and not allow my kundalini to awaken. After getting sober, my life as I knew it really started to fall apart. My job was so stressful that I had insomnia due to anxiety, my marriage was disintegrating, and I was contemplating how I might escape the whole disaster.
Eight Signs Of Kundalini Awakening
The structures that I had put in place to prop up my unhealed self were no longer functioning, and I was becoming aware that the whole thing was a lie. This part of the process can look similar to a mid-life crisis, or a Saturn return in your astrological chart, where everything that you had committed to previously begins to dissolve or be taken away. Old habits and addictions, relationships, family connections, diet, work and career — everything comes up for review.
We can resist this process out of fear, but usually that only makes the changes more painful. This is the beginning of a journey that will take courage, discipline, and support to make it through. Some people will experience physical and energetic symptoms at this point. Mine tended to be emotional rather than physical anxiety, depression, despairbut many people speak of very obvious signs shaking, visual disturbance, inability to relax, a major rush of energy, a near-death experience. The nervous system is unable to handle the amount of energy that is wanting to move, and this can show up in a myriad of ways.
The important thing is not to obsess over the symptoms, but find ways discussed below to allow the energy to move by healing the body and opening up the channels of energy. People seek changes in diet, seeking out healers, leaving relationships, changing jobs, all done in an attempt to respond to what is happening on the inside.
For me, I was shaken up enough to call in sick from work, go for a hike in the middle of the day, and try a form of yoga I had never attempted before. That Kundalini Yoga class ended up being the breadcrumb that I followed which would change my whole life. Once we are desperate enough to be willing to try new things, we become available to receive support and miracles from unexpected sources.
For me, it started with that first Kundalini Yoga class. Soon, I had the courage to request to work part-time. Giving myself more downtime to heal my nervous system, allowed me to get in touch with what was truly going on underneath my anxiety, stress, and despair. Within months of practicing this form of yoga, I saw very clearly that my marriage was ending, and I had the courage to let it go.
Gurmukha Kundalini Yoga teacher, came to my town to offer a workshop, and I was given a 40 day meditation, which gave me the daily support to accomplish all these changes.
We meet the right people, attend the right workshop, stumble across the right book, find the right yoga studio…whatever we need ends up showing up at the right time in the right way.
Once we start to make these changes, we can expect to become more sensitive to things that we used to be able to tolerate. No more hot dogs and frozen peas for me. I learned how to cook wholesome, vegetarian food, and became more aware of the media and entertainment that I was consuming. Perhaps we realize we need to move out of the roommate situation and find our own apartment, so that we have space to take care of ourselves, do our work, eat right, and minimize chaos. The nervous system is undergoing changes to be able to handle more energy, and this leads to increased sensitivity.
We know when our old habits are starting to sound enticing, or when our heart is beginning to shut down. We pay more attention to our intuition, and begin to develop a relationship with our soul, our Inner Teacher.
What other people say or think about us becomes less important to us, because our inner compass is more reliable and clearer.Kundalini is a serpent goddess who lies coiled at the base of our spine. The guru Avdhoot Baba Shivanand describe this awakening as an expansion of the brain. Bring more joy to your sex life! Read with a love psychic to find out how. Some gurus will tell you that in order to truly awaken your kundalini, you need to stop sexual activity. This allows you to put energy towards spiritual transformation.
However, for most of the population, this is not viable or necessary. The following tips will help you awaken your kundalini with your partner. However, these are only basic tips. But because so many of us believe this, kundalini exercises heal us and help us reach a higher plain. Kundalini is simply allowing yourself to relax and fall into the moment with your partner, accepting whatever happens next.
Instead, they focus on using the experience as a means to transcend their own sensuality or spirituality. The problem with this is that it leaves out the fundamental idea of kundalini as a selfless act of love. So, you should sit back and enjoy the moment with your love without expectation. Tip 3: Desire Urges Action and Knowledge Completes the Action Tantra expert Chandi Devi reminds us that nothing can ever be accomplished in kundalini without desire icchaknowledge jnana and action kriya.
And desire is not enough. You must also have the proper knowledge and understanding of the practices. This leads to the final necessity, which is action. Nothing will ever be accomplished without action. Just surrender yourself to the moment. See where it takes you. The idea here is that you cannot achieve a full-body orgasm until you have evoked the serpent goddess Kundalini.
She has to wind her way up each of your chakras. Start slowly by touching your partner and then relaxing into a shallow meditation. Allow the moment to lead itself. Take your time. Remember, there is no goal orgasm to concern yourself with. Your only goal should be to enjoy each other. Tip 6: Practice Tantric Sex The idea of tantric sex is enjoying the sexual union, allowing kundalini to travel up the base of the spine uninterrupted. To achieve this, try not to focus so much on the sensations in your groin.
Instead, feel the sensation of the energy as it rises up through your spine. Tip 7: Have Fun Most of all, have fun. The most important part of awakening kundalini is not the destination, but the journey! You deserve real intimacy and romantic fulfillment, and you can awaken the intimacy in your relationship with the help of a love psychicduring a psychic love reading.
Find a love psychic or learn more about psychic love readings. If you get quiet enough, you may just be able to feel the energy buzzing through your veins and circulating through your muscles and the rest of your body. Ever been able to give it a name before? It can be considered Kundalini. Kundalini is a universally acknowledged and deeply revered energy that pervades everyday life. While it is recognized by many different names Holy Spirit, Shakti, etc… based on the contextual belief system or religion, there is a commonality in this realization of a cosmic energy.
The aim of Kundalini is to awaken that slumbering energy. Those who decide to pursue Kundalini as a practice to release this coiled energy are said to be rewarded with spiritual enlightenment and higher conscious awareness.
Kundalini energy rests like a coiled serpent at the base of the spine. Those who awaken Kundalini energy are said to be more creative, more inspired and more balanced; emotionally and spiritually. As Kundalini can be considered the life force that drives the everyday functioning of our bodies and minds, and in a greater sense, the one that supports our spirits, it only makes sense that unlocking it would help practitioners unveil their true potential and creativity.
Though the practice has developed in India over the last 1, years, the West has only experienced Kundalini since the late s, thanks in part to Harbhajan Singh Khalsa, also known as Yogi Bhajan. The rest is Kundalini history. Those who are interested in enlightenment, however, seek out Kundalini as their yoga practice of choice. Instead of a singular focus on body, mind or spirit, Kundalini yoga seeks to incorporate all of these into a holistic practice that leads to energy release.
In the physical aspect of the practice, poses focus on key energy meridians points where energy flow is greatest in order to bring awareness to and activate areas like the spine and the navel. In addition, the use of key breathing techniques like pranayama are used that help practitioners control their breath and unlock their inner energy. These physical steps taken to achieve a sense of higher awareness can be linked to Kundalini Yoga, but the awakening of the energy itself and the higher consciousness that results can be considered Kundalini Meditation.
Consider trying the Kriya Technique, which focuses foremost on the breath. You can do this quite easily at home, and practice once a day in a quiet room free from distraction. Breathe into your tailbone, at the very tip of your spine. While breathing, direct your breath through your spine in an upwards direction and up through the crown of your head.
Continually focus on that upward movement of energy and breath. The dangers arise when people try to raise Kundalini because of the pleasurable sensations or high that can sometimes come with it. When you experience a Kundalini Awakening, you will notice that you have high and low energy times.
This commonly happens as the Kundalini works through blockages as it moves up the Chakras. When you keep pushing the Kundalini to rise, more symptoms can arise. Some symptoms may not be pleasurable or cause sickness. If you get sick or feel pain, stop your Kundalini raising techniques. Allow the energy to lessen in strength and let it flow naturally. I had made meditation part of my daily routine but currently I am unable to do so. Every time I do, I will get a bad headache the next day.
This means my Kundalini is very active and I do not need to meditate now. Meditation actually helps to raise your consciousness. I recently went to a website that was suppose to be a network for people experiencing Kundalini Awakening. One of its links show a man in a video that is using his spiritual energy to push a man forward and then back. I personally feels this takes away from the real purpose of raising Kundalini.
Yes, being able to read minds or possibly levitate is great but that is nothing in comparison to becoming one with the Universal Source! I just came across a book that was a specific and detailed personal account of a woman who had a spontaneous Kundalini awakening.
If you are interested in her story, her name is Elaine Lehman. Her kundalini arose spontaneously — though true that she did practice meditation and was already in touch with spirit guides.
Her Kundalini spontaneously arose as she was standing on the deck of a ship — on her honeymoon, after she had divorced an abusive husband and remarried to her soulmate.
But whereas a mental disorder causes a person to lose control and poses significant challenges to living, the ebbs and flows of Kundalini over 20 years did not destroy her life, even when she felt terrible suffering.
In your personal opinion, is it right for every person to seek this kind of spiritual growth, in order for human consciousness to evolve? I find myself pretty reluctant to undergo something so extreme… especially because I have seen friends who were more bipolar than spiritually awakened, whose lives fell apart because of their delusions of messiah nature — which was both terrifying and tragic to behold.
Thanks for sending me this and apologize for not responding sooner. I will be looking up her book. Many people are seeking some supernatural thrill to fulfill them instead of going to the living God of the Bible. I believe since all people without Christ have a spiritual vacuum within themselves they will seek spiritual experiences in hopes it will fulfill them. The devil, which the Bible calls the deceiver, knows this so he offers people a counterfeit.
Satan has his snares for those seeking such experiences. There are a plethora of Youtube videos about how to have a kundalini awakening. Many of these videos have hundreds of thousands of views. There are many websites that promote it and have been numerous books written about it. My contention is that kundalini is nothing more than a demon or an evil spirit and that it is extremely dangerous to have a kundalini awakening.
These doors are easily opened by New Age and occult practices. This is the antithesis of one filled with the Holy Spirit Ephesians in which born again Christians have when they repent and turn to the Lord Jesus Christ.
From a Christian perspective it seems to be an evil spirit, but how do non-Christians describe it? It has been part of the belief system of many cultures for centuries. Avalon writes on the back cover [emphasis mine]:. Mythologically, she is an aspect of shakti power or energy and consort of Shiva.
Philosophically she is the creative energy that forms mind and matter, and comes to rest in the lowest form of matter. She is consciousness: the power of matter to know itself. In terms of Tantric practice, she is the mysterious power that resides in the human body and can be awakened by suitable techniques: special meditations and yogic practices of a particularly powerful nature.
She is The Goddess: the ultimate heart of many areas of Eastern religion, not only of Hinduism. Kundala means coiled. The power is the Goddess Devi Kundalini, or that which is coiled; for Her form is that of a coiled and sleeping serpent in the lowest bodily centre, at the base of the spinal columnuntil by the means described She is aroused in that Yoga which is named after Her.
Why would some supposed mere impersonal force seem to have an intelligence? How can one be so trusting of an energy that seems to have intelligence and to totally yield to it?
She is also Bhajangi the serpent. As Chandi or Kali she has a garland of skulls around her neck and drinks human blood. Out of all the things in the universe, the kundalini is depicted as a serpent.
The Possible Dangers of Raising Kundalini.
The Bible reads that satan, the adversary, is a serpent. In Genesis Ch. He described as subtle or crafty and tempts Eve with the lie that she will be like gods. That sounds awfully similar to what kundalini promises practitioners — to achieve godhood or to become one with the divine. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
In the Bible satan is described as the deceiver of the whole world Rev. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Kundalini is also called the destroyer. Interesting because in Revelation it reads there is an evil spirit in the pit, who some believe to be the devil:.This energy, when cultivated and awakened through tantric practice, is believed to lead to spiritual liberation.
It derives its name from its focus upon the awakening of kundalini energy through regular practice of MantraTantraYantraAsanas or Meditation. It is mentioned as a noun for "snake" in the sense of "coiled" in the 12th-century Rajatarangini chronicle I. Eknath Easwaran has paraphrased the term as "the coiled power", a force which ordinarily rests at the base of the spine, described as being "coiled there like a serpent".
According to William F. Williams, Kundalini is a type of religious experience within the Hindu tradition, within which it is held to be a kind of "cosmic energy" that accumulates at the base of the spine. When awakened, Kundalini is described as rising up from the muladhara chakrathrough the central nadi called sushumna inside or alongside the spine reaching the top of the head.
The progress of Kundalini through the different chakras is believed to achieve different levels of awakening and a mystical experienceuntil Kundalini finally reaches the top of the head, Sahasrara or crown chakraproducing an extremely profound transformation of consciousness.
Swami Sivananda Saraswati of the Divine Life Society stated in his book Kundalini Yoga that "Supersensual visions appear before the mental eye of the aspirant, new worlds with indescribable wonders and charms unfold themselves before the Yogi, planes after planes reveal their existence and grandeur to the practitioner and the Yogi gets divine knowledge, power and bliss, in increasing degrees, when Kundalini passes through Chakra after Chakra, making them to bloom in all their glory Reports about the Sahaja Yoga technique of Kundalini awakening state that the practice can result in a cool breeze felt on the fingertips as well as the fontanel bone area.
Yogis such as Muktananda consider that Kundalini can be awakened by shaktipat spiritual transmission by a Guru or teacheror by spiritual practices such as yoga or meditation.
Eight Signs Of Kundalini Awakening
The passive approach is instead a path of surrender where one lets go of all the impediments to the awakening rather than trying to actively awaken Kundalini. A chief part of the passive approach is shaktipat where one individual's Kundalini is awakened by another who already has the experience.
Shaktipat only raises Kundalini temporarily but gives the student an experience to use as a basis. He subsequently came to believe "As the ancient writers have said, it is the vital force or prana which is spread over both the macrocosm, the entire Universe, and the microcosm, the human body The atom is contained in both of these.
Prana is life-energy responsible for the phenomena of terrestrial life and for life on other planets in the universe. Prana in its universal aspect is immaterial.
But in the human body, Prana creates a fine biochemical substance which works in the whole organism and is the main agent of activity in the nervous system and in the brain.
The brain is alive only because of Prana The most important psychological changes in the character of an enlightened person would be that he or she would be compassionate and more detached. There would be less ego, without any tendency toward violence or aggression or falsehood. The awakened life energy is the mother of morality, because all morality springs from this awakened energy. Since the very beginning, it has been this evolutionary energy that has created the concept of morals in human beings.
The American comparative religions scholar Joseph Campbell describes the concept of Kundalini as "the figure of a coiled female serpent—a serpent goddess not of "gross" but "subtle" substance—which is to be thought of as residing in a torpid, slumbering state in a subtle center, the first of the seven, near the base of the spine: the aim of the yoga then being to rouse this serpent, lift her head, and bring her up a subtle nerve or channel of the spine to the so-called "thousand-petaled lotus" Sahasrara at the crown of the head She, rising from the lowest to the highest lotus center will pass through and wake the five between, and with each waking, the psychology and personality of the practitioner will be altogether and fundamentally transformed.
According to the Goraksasatakaor "Hundred Verses of Goraksa", hatha yoga practices such as mula bandhauddiyana bandha, jalandhara bandha and kumbhaka can awaken Kundalini. The spiritual teacher Meher Baba emphasized the need for a master when actively trying to awaken Kundalini:. Kundalini is a latent power in the higher body. When awakened, it pierces through six chakras or functional centers and activates them. Without a master, the awakening of the kundalini cannot take anyone very far on the Path; and such indiscriminate or premature awakening is fraught with dangers of self-deception as well as the misuse of powers.
The kundalini enables man to consciously cross the lower planes and it ultimately merges into the universal cosmic power of which it is a part, and which also is at times described as kundalini The important point is that the awakened kundalini is helpful only up to a certain degree, after which it cannot ensure further progress.
It cannot dispense with the need for the grace of a Perfect Master. The experience of Kundalini awakening can happen when one is either prepared or unprepared. According to Hindu tradition, in order to be able to integrate this spiritual energy, a period of careful purification and strengthening of the body and nervous system is usually required beforehand.
The student is advised to follow the path in an open-hearted manner. Traditionally, people visited ashrams in India to awaken their dormant kundalini energy with regular meditation, mantra chanting, spiritual studies and physical asana practice such as kundalini yoga. Kundalini is considered to occur in the chakra and nadis of the subtle body.Imagine seeing the world with expansive vision.
You have keen perception that combines innumerable perspectives at once. You understand your feelings perfectly. You also sense how others are interpreting the world, how others feel.
Their judgments are clear to you. With adequate practice and guidance, this is some of the enlightenment that comes through Kundalini Awakening. Awaken the dormant energy within you.
What Is Kundalini Awakening?
Exploring Kundalini Awakening through the Parable of Shiva And Shakti Kundalini is often described as a dormant serpent energy coiled up at the base of the spine.
Imagine a resting snake, coiled eight times, waiting to unleash its magnificent power at the base of a great mountain. She has within her infinite energy potentiating. She is the force of creation, resting, longing to rise up to be in union with consciousness at the heights of spiritual bliss. It is said that the serpent is Shakti, a goddess that is legendary for having created all that is. Lord Shiva symbolizes consciousness and the unmovable power of the observer.
He is said to have been meditating for thousands of years while Shakti danced for him. Her longing to be at one, dancing with her beloved provokes him to open one of his three eyes. She beckons for him to dance with her.The Bliss and Nightmare of Kundalini Awakening
He closes his eye and rests back in meditation for thousands more years, awaiting her absolute clarity that joining in harmonious union with him is her true desire. As her longing intensifies, she determines that she must dance with her Beloved Lord Shiva. At that, his three eyes open, they dance together, and all at once the universe unfolds into creation.
All of nature is created as a result of their union. The witness is consciousness, unmoving and unchanging. Nature is all that dances, all that moves and changes in this world.
The witness or seer within each of us is Shiva and the nature of all things around us and within us is Shakti. When Shiva and Shakti are separate, spiritual awakening cannot take place. That separate state is known as a duality. The very merging of Shiva and Shakti obliterates duality and opens the spiritual river of oneness through which Kundalini flows.
